The Cree Nation sets the standards

I had the pleasure of working with the Cree community of Waswanipi in northern Quebec. Waswanipi means “Light on the Water”, it describes the past when they used the torch light fueled by pine tar, to spear and catch sturgeon that had gathered to spawn at the mouth of Waswanipi River.

The community has undertaken some amazing initiatives to increase housing for Elders. The have a place in the community that has several houses that have been built for the elders and it is within walking distance of their community house where lunch is served free every day. It was nice to be in a great community.

Miigwetch for your hospitality!
